2026 Program & Creative Team

We are just beginning to develop a version of Eco-Theater Club at the northern end of the Hudson River estuary, in Albany, NY, which would run in tandem with our program at the New York Harbor School on Governors Island. Imagine students at opposite ends of the estuary learning from each other about their respective homes, visiting each others’ schools and witnessing each others’ performances!

You used to be superhero clubhouse—what happened?

After 18 years as Superhero Clubhouse, we transitioned in 2026 to become FUTURE RIVER, utilizing the tools of collaborative theater-making to envision and enact environmental justice.

Future River means both:

  1. A river of the future (envisioning and mapping a just, thriving future with local communities)

  2. The future of the river (helping to steward the ecological future of the Hudson River estuary, the ancestral, unceded territory of the Lenape and Haudenosaunee people).

Beyond the name change, we are also in the process of rewriting our mission, rebranding, and refocusing our work to serve the Mahicantuck / Ka’nón:no (Hudson River) estuary bioregion. The cities, towns, and ecosystems stretching from New York City to Troy are connected by the great river that flows both ways, by the Catskills and Taconic mountains that give us drinking water, and by the web of local economies, cultures, and policies that shape our daily lives. As Future River, we intend to be a creative resource for strengthening these relationships and investing in an empowered and liberated future for all inhabitants of this remarkable place.

Why are we making these changes? How will our programming evolve? Stay tuned on Instagram @future.river as we post about this transition in real time: who we’ve been, who we’re becoming, and how you can join us.

And to our dear Superhero Clubhouse: We are so grateful for you, sweet name, and all the joy and direction you have brought us over nearly two decades. You helped us understand ourselves as an inclusive gathering place for serious play, as a home for empowering artists as environmental advocates and environmental professionals as creative collaborators. We honor you even after we've sent you off into the night sky.
