Eco-Theatre Club
Formerly called Big Green Theater Why did we change the name?
Eco-Theater Club is an after-school program for public school students that uplifts the imaginations of young people at the frontlines of climate and environmental justice and brings their ideas to life on stage.
Our 2026 Eco-Theater Club at the New York Harbor School is all about MICROPLASTICS. Join us on Thursday May 28, 3pm at LMCC Arts Center on Governors Island for a staged reading of student-written songs and scenes inspired by microplastic, as well as original costumes made from marine debris!
Eco-Theater Club aims to inspire students to become environmental justice leaders and advocates for their communities by using the power of their creative voice. In the program, students learn about local issues of climate and environmental justice from guest presenters and field trips. Inspired by what they learn, students collaborate with adult artists to write imaginative, musical plays that invite audiences into complex issues in creative, accessible ways. Students also learn about theatrical design that allows them to begin bringing their scripts and characters to life. Students’ work is then performed for audiences of their peers, teachers, family members, and the larger environmental justice community.
